Grandma Curry, Aunt Kelly and Annette Come to Visit

This past weekend, Grandma Curry, Aunt Kelly, and Annette came to Des Moines to visit Kayla, Jeff, and Sarah...but mostly Kayla. We had a lot of fun with them and Grandma got to hold Kayla a lot. During the nighttime, Sarah, Jeff, and Aunt Kelly went to a Dueling Piano Bar while Grandma and Annette babysat Kayla. Kayla was a very good little angel while Mommy and Daddy were away and during the weekend she got a lot of time to play with her jungle gym.

The Vedict about Kayla's 2 week appointment

The poll to guess Kayla's weight was up for a week. Now the poll is closed...and guess what? Nobody was right! Kayla is growing more than you think! She was 6 lbs, 8 oz on her 2 week appointment. Grandma Carol was in town then and she guessed Kayla would be 6 lbs, 5 oz. She was the closest! I only thought she would be up to her birth weight. Kayla surprised us all! She is suppose to gain an ounce a day. She should be close to seven pounds now. Here is a picture of her little naked body on the scale to prove her weight! The doctor said she was very healthy and we don't need to come back until she is 2 month old. During her 2 month appointment...that is when she will receive three shots! I need to go out an buy baby Tylenol for her so she can take it before her shots!

Kayla has a Belly Button!

Kayla's cord came off and now she has a belly button. It is too early to tell if her belly button will be "in" or "out". The day after her cord came off, she got a REAL bath...not a sponge bath to clean her belly. As you can clearly see, Kayla does not enjoy bath time! Sarah made Kayla's bath really quick so she could wrap up her baby in a towel to get her warm!

Thanks for the Help Grandma Carol!

Sarah's mom came to Des Moines to see her grand baby, Kayla. Grandma Carol was a tremendous help. She came to visit for three days. During the nights she turned her alarm on and took the 3:00 am feeding. That is the hardest time to wake up! She said Kayla was worth waking up because Kayla was so alert and she was able to play with her. She also watched Kayla on Monday night so Jeff and Sarah could go out with their friends. Grandma Carol also helped by cooking dinners for Sarah and Jeff. Wow..she was a great help! Thanks for everything Grandma Carol! Here are some picture of Kayla and her grandma!

Our first outing with a baby sitter!

On Monday evening, Jeff and Sarah went out with our friends, Jordan and Tiffany. We ate pizza at a restaurant then went to a coffee shop to talk. Grandma Carol offered to watch Kayla while mommy and daddy went out. Even though it has only been two weeks since we needed a babysitter to go out...it was well deserved! Sarah was very glad to get out of the house! She was having cabin fever pretty bad. The cabin fever will continue for awhile...I'm afraid. It was refreshing to do something new, but both Jeff and Sarah missed their baby girl and was ready to come home to her. Thanks for watching Kayla, Grandma Carol!

Kayla sleeps with one eye open and makes other funny faces!

We never know when Kayla is truly sleeping because she always has one eye open! It is a little scary! She seems to be looking out for us...especially when she has her pacifier in her mouth. She doesn't like here mommy and daddy to take it out!

This week, she also has found a new love of making funny faces! Pictures don't give her faces justice, but they will have to work until you come visit her! Then, she can make funny faces at you! They are adorable.

The Week in Review

We had a very fun week! To start things off...Kayla's new friend was born just five days after her! Congratulations Jack! We went to the hospital to visit Jack's parents. Jack's proud mother, Katie, used to work with Sarah. Here is a picture of the two moms during New Year's Eve when we were both still pregnant with our little ones! We are very excited to have a playmate that is so close in age!
Kayla is waking up more! She is still an angel baby, but she cries more! Especially when she needs to eat! She uses her lungs a lot when she is being changed! Nobody likes to be cold! Right now, Kayla's life consists of eating, sleeping, and pooping! Then it starts all over again! She is having some activity time in between! She loves looking at pictures! I shouldn't say looking...I should say starting at them!

A Weekend with Family

We had a very busy and fun weekend. On Saturday we were visited by Aunt Judy, Great Grandpa Bloch, and Bobbie. During their visit, Aunt Judy spoiled Kayla by letting her sleep on her shoulder for around three hours straight. But that is okay because all babies need to be loved. However, Kayla was up and ready to party for most of the night. She was held by her Great Grandpa and Bobbie. She also received her first home bath and got her finger nails clipped for the first time which was scary for Sarah.

On Sunday, Grandma Carol, Brian, and Great Grandma Houlder came up to see miss Kayla. Great Grandma gave Kayla a purple princess bear because she has nicknamed Kayla "princess". Everyone loved to hold her and was very happy to see her when she was only 6 days old.

Kayla's 1st Dr. Appointment

Today Kayla, Mommy, and Daddy went to the Dr. Office for the very first time and the Dr. said that she was a perfectly healthy baby. Kayla now weighs 5 lbs and 14 oz. (She should get back to her birth weight of 6 lbs 1 oz very soon.)

Kayla really liked the Dr. and let her check her out without even crying. She was wide awake the whole time and being a very very good baby. We are going back next Monday for her 2-week follow up appointment.

Our family came home today!

Today, Kayla came home from the hospital. We packed all the luggage, gifts, and hospital information up, and Kayla got dressed up in the same outfit that her mommy came home in 26 years ago. She then got put into her car seat to go home for the very first time. While mommy and Kayla waited for daddy to set up the car, everyone said she was adorable. Finally, the car was ready and Kayla and mommy sat in the backseat to go home. She fell asleep as soon as daddy started driving. He drove at least ten miles under the speed limit the whole time! That is okay because it was also snowing outside. We are getting used to having someone else to take care of rather than just ourselves!
